Hatted Lady

Here's a Hatted Lady to wish you Happy Holidays!

This is an old incomplete drawing in oil pastels (which are not my favorite medium) but her bright colors seemed appropriate for the season--especially with her wink at ya!

Backstage

Welcome to Cosmic Persona Designs!

Here's a nugget from one of my main men, and yours too, I imagine:

"The science of design is the source and essence of
painting, sculpture, architecture. Sometimes it seems to me
that all the works of the human brain and hand are either
design itself or a branch of that art." -Michelangelo

Maskarade Charade

Maskarade Charade is a new drawing being perpetrated upon Cosmic Persona Designs.

Rexel Derwent Watercolour pencils and Prismacolor Oil pencils are the enablers.

Contortionary figures dance on paper with mask slippage apparent...

...and transiting Neptune, enabler of masks, veils, and illusions, resides once again at "18 Aquarius" aka the "A man unmasked" degree.

Dane Rudhyar's book, An Astrological Mandala, gives this degree the Keynote:

The difficulty for the modern individual to keep secret his private past or his deeper motives; It may refer to the publicizing of past behavior.

And Dr. Marc Edmund Jones says that this Sabian Symbol speaks of "the human mind's illimitable power for penetrating into the deeper stirrings and underlying motivations of human nature, and of a very modern determination to gain a scientific mastery of every psychological process.

There is a demand that each person make a public accounting of himself whenever the general welfare requires it. Life becomes a laboratory for an immortal curiosity.

Keyword: ANALYSIS...

positive manifestation: a considered self-dedication to greater or more wonderful reasons for being;

negative/unconcious or shadow side manifestation: self-betrayal through exceptional ineptitude." --Dr. Marc Edmund Jones, The Sabian Symbols in Astrology, to be found at Amazon.com as is the Rudhyar version of the Symbols...for our evolutionary edification.

Prima donna singing

Prima donna welcomes you to Cosmic Persona Designs!

This drawing is more or less a representation of the *Sabian Symbol for "21 Cancer":

"A prima donna singing": EXCELLENCE...

positive: an overflowing richness of self through its full command of its own deep and genuine potentials;

negative/unconscious or shadow side: superficial self-affirmation and unseemly display.

Does this lady look unseemly to you?

Making Up

Is it hard to do? A trine of sisters say, yes!

Welcome to Cosmic Persona Designs, an art gallery of botanical, plus: visionary, cosmic, and archetypal art of the drawing persuasion. Prismacolor Oil and Rexel Derwent Watercolour pencils are employed here--usually on black paper, but sometimes on white.

Masks and the Feminine Mystique may well apply--the Ceres, Juno, Vesta, and Pallas in us all.

Scroll down a smidge for an Art SlideShow, a Flickr Badge, and some cool links just for you!

And visit Dreamyfish Art and Secret Moon Art Galleries for more images by yours truly, Jude Cowell (Coh' wull, not cow as in moo-cows or Simon!)

You may also wish to look for Jude Cowell's portfolio on Absolute Arts.com if you're over 17, please!

And if you're in the mood to check out some political-cats-who-blog, stop by Lim's Limericks because we may as well laugh at the politicians who're attempting to define the world for us all--let's define our own, shall we?

Even if it takes a groanworthy limerick to do it!

Her Plea: 16 Gemini

Welcome to Cosmic Persona Designs!

This drawing is my interpretation of the "16 Gemini" degree of the zodiac, "A woman activist in an emotional speech dramatizing her cause"...from Dane Rudhyar's version of the Sabian Symbols--an evolutionary description of life's natural processes as they move through the 360 degrees of the zodiac--the circle of life.

This is utilized most obviously in Astrology charts which are celestial maps of the locations of planets and stars at any given moment in time--and TIME is what Astrology brings to any analysis--whether personal or collective--which no other discipline can offer.

So what does "16Gem" mean?

Keynote: A passionate response to a deeply felt new experience.

Keywords: THE PROSELYTIZING MIND.

This degree speaks of the act of dealing with those who are still unaware of (the) new knowledge or realization. A public is needed, and it has to be convinced; its inertial resistance to change has to be overcome. This usually requires an emotional dramatization of the issues at stake.

A woman is depicted which indicates a person who depends upon feelings and fiery images (may be male also) to sway the receptive public.

What is at stake is a process of communication of new experiences...the mind is called upon to perform its work. #

Here is a "reasoned conviction" (Dr. Marc Edmund Jones.)

The Grolier Club of New York

"Do not fail to draw something every day, for no matter how little it is, it will be well worth while, and it will do you a world of good." Cennino Cennini (1370-1440)

In artist Robert Genn's Newsletter (see icon link this page) this week we read of an exhibition at New York's Grolier Club, Teaching America to Draw. Show reviewer Michael Kimmelman reminds us that,

"Drawing used to be a civilized thing to do, like reading and writing. It was taught in elementary schools. It was democratic. It was a boon to happiness."

Elementary schools certainly emphasized drawing when I was a whippersnapper--and it was my favorite thing to do. I love Digital Art--it's amazing, but let's not throw away our pencils and pens just yet!

Founded in 1884 The Grolier Club is for bibliophiles and graphic arts enthusiasts. Named for the great French bibliophile Jean Grolier (1489/90-1565), it may be worth some clicks in 2006!

Woman Nursing a Baby with a Message

"12 Cancer": Life gains significance to the extent that each person embraces the totality of his kind in his own makeup, or seeks to embody universal values in his
everyday consciousness.

Keyword: MATERIALIZATION...

pos: a gift for bringing the more Godlike resources or superior powers of self to a point of real community service;

neg/shadow-unconscious side: completely unreasonable demands for recognition.

This degree's Symbol speaks of personal talents and skills and of greater opportunities to use them. Thanks to: The Sabian Symbols in Astrology by Dr. Marc Edmund Jones...with little effort you can read my review of it on Amazon. Or just get one if you don't have one...tres simple.

The Mysterious A.Cat

Hope you've got a moment to see what this limerick situation is about at Lim's Limericks by A.Cat because I'm not sure if this should be broadcast considering how political cats have turned out to be--and you could've knocked me over with a feather when I found this out.

I know we live in political times but bird's-eye accounts are often squeamishly squelched by the powers-that-be. Not so here. His pen name may be hiding something deeper, of course, but I don't want to intrude on his privacy...there's enough of that in the land near and far, so a pen name is probably a noble ruse in Mr.A.Cat's case.

Guess if you travel in such high and mighty circles, the time comes when all must be revealed...polls or no, mandates be d---well, check it out unless you're under the ripe old age of 17. If so, I'd prefer that you censor yourself until at least next year...and if you're one to wear your political indoctrinations on your sleeve, it would be more prudent for you to simply sit out this dance!

In fact, wait for a salsa. There's sure to be a salsa. And limericks can be so annoying even without the catitude.

Secret Moon Art: 7.7.06

Secret Moon Art debuts tonight...and the target date for the Gallery going LIVE! is the evening of 07.10.06 - in July, a few hours before Full Moon, the culmination phase.

RE-UPDATE Friday 7.14.06: Secret Moon Art now LIVE!!! Ignore paragraph below...

*MONDAY UPDATE: UNBELIEVABLE!! No combo of 'Secret Moon' titles will satisfy blogger.com so that I can set up the Secret Moon Art blog-art gallery, so I'll need to reconnoiter, art lover. Now back to my post of July 8th with all my happy plans for SECRET MOON ART. Later I'll post: Purple trillium...in its early phase. And I did say, if all goes well.

Sorry I won't be putting 'Secret Moon Art' online tonight. Am I over my blog limit or somethin'?

7.8.06 cont'd:

You'll be noticing that Moon phases are featured in most of these images. Magic, night, cosmic, the infrequent yet delicate fairy, botanically-drawn plants, flowers, a few spider webs...these various scenes are being put underneath my original imprint of Unscene World.

Secret Moon Art is a Series inside the enigma that is Unscene World...a mere figment of the whole is your Secret Moon. Drawings shall begin in Black-White: Rexel Derwent Watercolours and Prismacolor Oils. Color will be added at some stage--or will it?

And each Series will consist of 3, 5, or 7 panels and will give you a peek at the developing drawing.

Whether you like it or not, you'll be horrified by my color choices, perhaps bemused by my unencumbrature with the mental realm, and occasionally you may even be gratified by my trust in you to give me a Shout-Out if you have any comments or questions.

But WHY the Moon?

Our astrological Moons in our natal charts tell us much about our emotional lives, our dreams, our heredities--remembering the fact that we are each the "flowering of our generations" with talents, abilities...and unconscious behavior patterns we need to jettison in order to progress.

The 'urge to merge' is nestled within the Moon's realm, as is the Unconscious, and our habits from the past which are catching up with us...for they always do!

So...there's more to come in this logo's progress although it is near completion, as you plainly see. You may Bookmark Secret Moon Art to stay up with illustrations of the progressing and hidden Moon and I'd love for you to share and use a favored image--so remember: Attribution is the least you can do for all my hours--nay, years--of work! See Licensing Agreement at top of page.

The rendering you see here is v1 of #1 (logowise) and as such will be completed and published soon as Secret Moon logo #1v2.

Hope you'll mosey back to view finished drawings in the Secret Moon Art Series and get a jump on the next Series, #1 of which is Now Published at SO'W with the second version--the more completed drawing due online in a few days.

Wishing Harmony to All, and an end to psychopaths ruling the world,

Crescent Moon: Stocking Crisis

At Cosmic Persona Designs we have a love of and respect for astrology, so here we see a minor warbrobe malfunction at the Cresent--or crisis--phase of the Moon.

The Crescent grows into the first quarter square or "crisis in action" stage, then the Full Moon occurs which then leads to the last quarter or "crisis in consciousness" stage. Or...it's just a drawing finished today!

tag:

Update: Sunday's New Moon (June 25) at "4Can", Sabian Symbol: "A cat arguing with a mouse" has inspired a quite measley political limerick which I type for you here from the developing Lame Limericks Collection:

There once was a cat with a mouse
who chased it all over the House
the mouse couldn't catch
the cat couldn't scratch
and the louse used to be such a souse.

(c) jude cowell 6.24.06

Ah, the state of US politics and politicians...threadbare of ethics, bereft of conscience, and most of them deserving of long long prison terms. Now THAT would be a photo-op worth perusing.

"4Can", from Marc Edmund Jones' The Sabian Symbols in Astrology: JUSTIFICATION...

positive: a gift for persuading others to accept the motives of self and to cooperate with its ends;

negative/shadow side: interminable quarreling with the nature of things.

Sounds like the recent squabblings of Dems and Repubs on the Hill. And the Jupiter/ Saturn square was exact on June 22-->Saturn = Dem Party, Jupiter = Republicans.

Saturn restricts and controls, Jupiter expands and increases...square = blockage, obstacles.

So the squabbles will continue...let's give jolly money-bags Jupiter a few days to get going forward, and we'll see how the vicious Hill quarrels progress--snagged stockings and crooked seams notwithstanding.

But, of course, there's their Fourth of July break to consider. The 109th Congress has put in the least number of work days of any Congress in US history. But I can't figure out if that's a bad thing or a good...?
